Sculptural Textured Planter for Modern Interior & Outdoor Spaces
Sculptural planter defined by a universal form, tactile surface, and soulful connection to African vessel traditions.
Stellar is the latest collaboration between Indigenus and South African artist Zizipho Poswa. Inspired by a form that appears across cultural histories around the world, the design draws on the enduring language of the vessel while bringing an unmistakably African perspective to contemporary planter design. Its distinctive silhouette and pronounced texture create a sense of weight, warmth, and quiet presence, allowing Stellar to feel equally at home within refined interiors and architectural outdoor spaces.
For reference, the image below shows the relative size of each Indigenus Stellar Planter to help you visualize scale in your space.
Why Choose the Indigenus Stellar Planter Pots
1. A Universal Form with African Roots
Stellar draws inspiration from vessel forms found throughout cultural histories across Africa, Europe, the Americas, and beyond. Reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, its familiar yet distinctive silhouette creates a planter that feels both globally resonant and deeply connected to African design traditions.
2. Tactile Texture & Evidence of Handwork
The surface of Stellar celebrates texture and the visual evidence of craftsmanship. Its deliberately worked exterior gives the planter an organic, tactile character, introducing depth and variation that becomes more apparent as light moves across the surface.
3. Sculptural Form with a Grounded Presence
Designed to have an anchoring quality, Stellar brings substantial visual weight without relying on excessive ornamentation. Its rounded, vessel-inspired profile creates a strong sculptural foundation for planting, allowing the greenery and the planter to work together as a single composition.
4. Handmade Character, Developed for Consistent Production
Creating a planter with the appearance and character of handwork presented a significant technical challenge. Indigenus developed Stellar to capture this tactile, handmade quality while making the form repeatable in production, combining artisanal visual character with the consistency expected of a professionally manufactured planter.
5. For Residential, Hospitality & Architectural Spaces
Designed for both indoor and outdoor applications, Stellar brings sculptural character to residential interiors, hospitality environments, commercial spaces, and architectural landscapes. Its substantial form and distinctive texture allow it to function as both a planting vessel and a considered design element within the surrounding space.
What Are Indigenus “Self-Watering” Liners
All Indigenus planters are supplied with a planting liner. Each liner is specifically designed to suit the proportions of its corresponding planter, ensuring balanced planting and healthy root development.

The liner features an integrated water reservoir at the base, which uses capillary action, a natural wicking process, to gradually draw water upward to the plant roots over time. The reservoir can be easily refilled by pouring water directly into the liner’s fill receptacle using a watering can, while the built-in gauge clearly indicates when the reservoir has reached its optimal level.
The Indigenus & Zizipho Poswa Collaboration
Stellar was created in collaboration with South African artist Zizipho Poswa, whose practice frequently explores large-scale sculptural forms rooted in African cultural references and traditions.
Her approach made the collaboration a natural fit for Indigenus. The vessel-inspired form explored in Stellar is closely connected to the visual language present throughout Poswa’s work, while her sculptural practice brings the collection its sense of scale, presence, and cultural grounding.
Together, Indigenus and Poswa sought to create a planter that feels genuinely connected to Africa while resonating within contemporary Western interiors and architectural landscapes. Stellar reflects this meeting point: a familiar universal form transformed through texture, craftsmanship, and a distinctly African perspective.
